Meet Lucinda at the coffee morning

Face Up to Acne launches at the Farleigh Macmillan Coffee Morning. Come and find the stall, look at the membership properly, ask the questions you have not wanted to put to a search engine, and enter the draw for a curated teenage skincare hamper together with an age-appropriate skin consultation and treatment.

Parental consent required. The draw is open to visitors at the coffee morning.

Could this be the start of acne?

Skin can begin changing from around eight to twelve, sometimes before other obvious signs of puberty. The early changes are easy to miss, and easy to treat badly.

Early changes to notice

A shinier forehead and nose

Tiny skin-coloured bumps

Blackheads around the nose

Small red or tender spots

Breakouts returning in the T-zone

Why it happens

Hormones
Puberty hormones stimulate the oil glands.

More oil
Skin begins producing more sebum.

Blocked pores
Oil and dead skin cells collect inside a pore.

Inflammation
Bacteria and inflammation turn the blockage into a spot.

Acne is not caused by dirty skin. Harsh scrubs, squeezing and several strong actives at once usually make irritation worse.

Simple skin. Sensible support.

Young skin rarely needs a complicated shelf of products. It needs the right basics, introduced carefully.

1  Gentle cleanse
2  Light moisturiser
3  Broad-spectrum SPF

Evening

1  Gentle cleanse
2  Treatment only as advised
3  Light moisturiser

Less can be more

Do not introduce several active ingredients at once. Avoid abrasive scrubs and repeated squeezing. Choose non-comedogenic makeup and remove it gently. Give a suitable routine time to work, because change takes consistency.

For parents

Who it is for

For boys and girls experiencing early oiliness, blackheads, closed comedones, recurring spots or mild-to-moderate acne, and particularly where the young person or parent feels unsure about products or next steps.

Every plan begins with consultation. Treatment is adapted to age, skin condition and tolerance, and for clients under 16 a parent or guardian gives consent and stays involved in the care plan throughout.

Seek advice early if spots are painful, persistent, beginning to scar, or affecting confidence. Early advice can prevent months of guesswork.

What it is, and what it is not

Messaging support is for routine skincare questions and is answered within two working days.

It is not an urgent medical service and does not replace GP or dermatology care.

Suitability is confirmed at consultation. Treatments and products may be adapted or deferred.

Missed appointments and cancellations follow the clinic’s published terms.

For clients under 16, a parent or guardian must provide consent and remain involved in the care plan.
